T. W. 4 gallon ovoid crock decorated with an incised and
blue accented 4 petal, ribbed flower. Attributed to the New Jersey maker, Thomas
Warne, who married a daughter of the early American potter, James Morgan. He
operated his business around 1800 in South Amboy, N. J. Extremely rare, early,
short-lived mark on a nice example. ALTHOUGH MARKED, THE ATTRIBUTION OF
THIS PIECE COULD BE WRONG. THE PIECE COULD BE OF MIDWEST OR MID-SOUTH ORIGIN DUE
TO THE FORM, COLOR AND CHARACTERISTICS. THE PIECE IS BEING SOLD SUBJECT TO A
RESERVE.
