1 $4,000.00 Thumbs/tn_mini-lot1.jpg $700.00 Armstrong & Wentworth Norwich 2 1/2 gallon ovoid crock. Deeply hand incised and blue accented vine and flower design decorates this piece with the maker's mark on the opposite side. Additional blue accents at the applied handles. Most of this CT factory's pieces were undecorated, so this was most likely a special order. Inscribed on the bottom "2 1/2". Stack mark just below the design occurred in firing. There are a couple of other stack marks and stone pings that also occurred in the making.

2 $1,650.00 Thumbs/tn_mini-lot2.jpg $600.00 Unsigned approximate 2 gallon ovoid crock. Incised and blue accented leaf design front and back. Also blue accents at applied loop handles. There are stamped and blue washed rosettes under each handle.
Probably Crolius of New York. Nice example of 18th century pottery. There is some overall age pitting and crazing but nothing distracting from this early piece.

Additional blue accents at the handles. The name COMMERAWS is impressed on one side and CORLEARS HOOK on the opposite. Nice example of one of this country's first potters. There is a chip at the rim and the maker's mark is lightly impressed.

mark at the shoulder is in fact, incised hash marks. "||||||||||" Probably New York state origin, Hudson Valley origin. There are a couple of old chips at the rim on the back by the handle. Two other old chips in the rim.

maker's mark. There is a stone ping in the design and kiln burns at the rim and base that occurred in the making.

Brushed blue accent, with additional blue at the ears and maker's mark.
There is a stone ping in the left ear and somewhat dry glaze. There is a tight old, glued crack coming up from the base on the back.

There are 2 incised lines about 3 1/2" down from the spout to further enhance this piece. Probably an early Hudson Valley NYS potter. Stained from use and an age line in the handle. There is some surface wear at the base.

This is a very obscure and rare New York state maker. This is the first one we have offered in 28 auctions. Some staining from use and minor stone ping on the side.

On the back side is one applied open handle with blue accents. Attributed to Jonathan Fenton, Boston.
There is a very old tight glued crack running up from the base on the right side just touching the flower. There is also some old surface chipping at the base.

Overall staining from use and a few stone pings that occurred in the making. At the base there is some chipping, one rather large one on the back.

Additional blue accents at the ears and at the maker's mark. Extremely rare New York Pottery run by John Gregory, Benjamin Lent, and Dwight Graves, in business  only 1 year. All three developed potteries in other areas. There is a glued crack in front of the left ear, down from the rim.

Note the gallon designation in the center of the vase. Great blue, triple flowers and dots are featured.  Additional blue accents at the ears. There are numerous age cracks extending up from the bottom and spidering on the back and sides, but nothing in the wonderful design. They are all tightly glued and the piece "rings true".

This is American Folk Art - an abstract profile of a man, typical of 19th century American itinerate artist.
